Lesson 3       Coping with Loss and Grief

Students can and will:

1. Know how to Acknowledging Loss and how to go through the greiving process. 2 Know the stages of grief 3. Coping with death. 4 Showing empathy. 5 Coping with Traumatic Events.

Review and Discuss Chapter.

Chapter 10 Nutrition for Health

Lesson 1 The Importance of Nutrition pp 254 - 257

Day 1 Video on Omega- 3 fatty acids and the affect on your body. Why we need O3.

Day 2  I split the class into 4 groups. Each group will teach a lesson. Groups have decided to make powerpoints, reading aloud, activity sheets, quizzes etc...... a variety of strategies are being used.

Day 3 through Day 9 Lessons being taught:

Lesson 1 The importance of Nutrition

Lesson 2 Nutrients

Lesson 3 Healthy Food Guidlines

Lesson 4 Nutrion Labels and Food Safety

 

 

Weight Training

Students will have to have 4 lifts a day and record them on my spread sheet.

They will record the following;

1. Type of lift

2. Amount of weight

3. Number of reps.

 

They may also walk in the middle school gym and/or core workout in the wrestling room on Tuesday and Thursday

This will be completed throughout the semester. I will keep track of there progress throughout the semester.

Rules and Grading Policy

Course Description:
The weightlifting class was designed to provide each student with the knowledge needed to understand the importance of strength and fitness training. Students will understand the importance of setting goals for personal improvement and achievement, and will leave the class with a lifelong understanding of how to maintain adequate physical fitness for a healthy lifestyle.

Instructional Philosophy:
All students will be provided with the necessary training on each specific exercise so that the exercise process can be safe and productive. Students are encouraged to remain positive with themselves, as well as with other students in order to maintain a good training atmosphere. It is important to realize that everyone begins this course, and progresses through this course at his own rate, as they reach their own individual goals. Safety is always given the first priority in this class.

Class Objectives:

- The student will improve their muscle strength and endurance through weight training exercises.

- The student will gain knowledge of equipment and safety procedures with free weights and machine weights.

- The student will recognize the benefits of regular physical activity and see firs hand the effects on themselves through class participation.

- The student will gain knowledge of developing a weight-training program and training principles:

Proper Dress Code:
Shorts, T-shirt, tennis shoes, are all necessary for participation. No inappropriate clothing will be allowed

Class Expectations:
- Students will be given five minutes to change before class and twelve before class ends. Showers will be up to each individual. Good hygiene is expected.
- All students will remain in the senior hallway until bell rings. Permission to leave will only be given by Mr. Hegge
- Any injuries or emergencies must be reported to the teacher during the class period so the proper action can be taken.
- Music can be played during lifting. Any inappropriate language from songs will be deducted from the person playing the CD.

Participations/Excuses:
- A student well enough to be in school is generally well enough to be dressed and participating in class. Any exception to this will be handled on an individual basis.
- Medical Excuses: Any student who must be out of Weight Training for an extended period of time for medical reasons is required to have an excuse from a doctor. This excuse needs to be descriptive letting me know what the student can and cannot do.
- Attendance: Students need to be in class to complete the required lifts. Being late for class and or leaving early from class will also lower grade.

Grading Requirements:
10
points total can be earned each day. Listed below is the break down
- 2 points for dressing
- 8-points for lifting
            2 points are given for the 4 required lift. Total points are 8. They must be written down on Mr. Hegges form.
